The painting comes from the road to Fiambala, Catamarca, Argentina. There, high in the mountains are the most beautiful stepped thermal pools I have ever seen. We almost didn’t reach them. The endless sand and rock felt daunting, and we saw not another soul. We stopped, anxious, thinking to turn back; journeying in the Andes on a small bike, you constantly calculate the time to reach anywhere before dark. But then I noticed a haze of green in the far distance. Where there’s green at altitude, there are humans. We rode on, reached our oasis. I lay back in hot pools after midnight hearing folk music and looking up at stars.
The energy of the painting is open and encouraging, it's welcoming. It says, 'Come on!' It beckons us through its landscape to touch the sky. It wants us to keep moving towards our highest potential, and not lose heart or give up too soon.
My intention is that 'Oasis' brings perseverance, and the prize. SAL
